Hamster babies
Hamsters become sexually mature when they are about one month old. However, a hamster should not be bred until it is between three and four months of age. If the female hamster is too young it will result in smaller litters, ill or even dead babies and it will be a hard time for the young mother in general. Usually hamsters can produce, on average, 8 young.
Newborn hamster babies don't have any fur and they can't see or hear, but they can already smell and move themselves around by their front feet. Don't try to pick the newborn up, though, because the mother won't like that and it could result in the mother abandon or even eat her babies.
When the hamster babies are a couple of days old they'll start exploring their cage. When they're about 2 to 3 weeks of age they'll start to look for food on their own. After about 4 weeks the hamster puppies will be ready to go to live on their own. If they are kept together for longer than 4 to 8 weeks they'll start serious fighting.
